Description
Join us for a webinar grounded in Repairing Roots: Historic Black Towns and Spatial Reclamation, a publication that centers the legacy and leadership of historic Black towns and settlements. These communities, shaped by the fight for safety, autonomy, and self-determination, face persistent threats from systemic disinvestment, environmental injustice, and racist planning practices. This conversation will emphasize descendant-led strategies and partnerships as essential to securing the future of these cultural and historical spaces, creating the conditions for justice and repair.
Panelists will include:
• Dr. Andrea Roberts, Associate Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning, University of Virginia
• Taiwan Scott, Hilton Head Island, SC Activist and Community Organizer
• Dr. Julian Chambliss, Professor of English and the Val Berryman Curator of History, MSU Museum at Michigan State University
